DANCESTREAMS HISTORY

During the 1984/1985 school year several dancers from various mid-island dance schools were invited to participate in the creation of a national rock video against smoking. This was filmed and produced by the Society for Exploring Television with Children. All those involved with this project developed an increased sense of professional attitudes and skills, learned new techniques and gained valuable experience.  Since the video's release, feedback from both the professional community and the general public had been extremely positive and many particularly commented on the impressively high calibre of the dancing.

This experience gave birth to the idea of creating Dancestreams.

Dancestreams was formed in 1985 by dance teachers Linda Klassen and Beverly Aitchinson to meet the needs of talented young dancers in the Central Vancouver Island region, and continues to offer talented young people the opportunities to work together every Sunday in a pre-professional environment, with guest teachers, choreographers and staff, enriching their dance experience while they continue to train during the week with their home studios.
